The seminar initiative was initially conceived in 2007 to provide participants in the master's and Ph.D. programs in urban planning at UPC, the opportunity to discuss and enhance their work. Gradually, The International Urban Research Seminars (SIIU), have opened up, especially to otherresearchers worldwide. Starting from the fifth edition in 2013, in mid-June, the seminar is jointly held between the UPC campus in Barcelona and the Latin American venue.

With each new edition, the seminar attracts an increasing number of researchers from different international universities, fostering the exchange of ideas to delve into the reflection on urban challenges. It maintains the commitment to create a platform for sharing research from both sides of the Atlantic.

At the IV ISUF-H Congress "FORMA URBIS and Metropolitan Territories. Metropolis in Recomposition. Projective Prospects in the 21st Century", to be held in Barcelona in September 2020, we aim to address the keys to the regenerations of contemporary territories. Through a dual diachronic and prospective approach, we intend to delve into contributions regarding the understanding of urban and territorial forms and the recent processes that have influenced their current state. The goal is to focus on positions and those that are useful for the management of urban and territorial transformations, aiming to enhance their efficiency and considering the current realities of metropolises in recomposition.

With a focus on morphological approaches for understanding and intervening in current territories, we will propose a thematic axis for the Congress, a historical review of how these approaches have evolved an exploration of the most relevant theoretical positions, and describing contemporary territorialities. To achieve this, the presentations at the Congress (its thematic axes) will provide a retrospective and perspective vision of the "schools" that have played a significant role in the study of urban form: British, French, Dutch, Italian, and Iberian.
